Silk Care

WASHING
Handwash in lukewarm water only using specially formulated mild ‘Delicates’ detergent or ‘Wool Wash’. Make sure that the detergent is well mixed in the water before immersing garment. Be gentle – it’s the agitation from washing that causes this material to shrink. That’s why even the gentle cycle on your washing machine can be too rough for this delicate fabric.

Rinse well, again only in tepid water, until all soap residue has been removed.

You can add ¼ of a cup of white vinegar to the rinse water to keep light coloured silks from yellowing.

Carefully remove excess water by gently squeezing it from garment in the sink. Do not wring or twist. Roll the garment in a white towel to extract water if necessary.

DRYING
Hang/line dry silk garments out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can damage the fibre and fade the colour of your garment, and pale coloured wet silk may yellow in direct sunlight.

DO NOT TUMBLE DRY.

PRESSING
Iron only when necessary. Most wrinkles in silk can be removed by hanging the garment in the bathroom during a shower, and letting the steamy humidity do the ironing for you.

If you do need to iron your Silk garment, it should always be ironed from the back/reverse side, and for best results pressed whilst still slightly damp. Ensure your iron is on its cool or “Silk” setting, as too much heat can dull, pucker or burn silk fabric.

Do not wet locally, or spray garment with water whilst ironing as this may cause rings or water marks.
